Rebecca Dent

In April 2012, the Firm welcomed Rebecca Dent as a Partner in the New York office to further deepen our experience and expertise in trust and estate and tax advice related to family offices, multi-generational planning, and charitable giving and foundations.

Rebecca began the practice of law in New York with a major Wall Street firm; and after joining Jones Day in its Cleveland office, and later Spieth Bell, she continued to work with families on the East Coast and in New York.

She is a trust lawyer with considerable experience in working with family offices on both long-term multi-generational planning and current administrative issues.  She is a trusted resource for in-house family office personnel, serves as and represents the trustees of many family trusts, and provides estate and charitable planning counsel to family members.  The munificence of her clients has led to a particular expertise in private charitable entities such as charitable lead trusts and foundations.

Rebecca was educated at Columbia Law School (JD 1975), where she was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar; New York University (MA 1972); and Barnard College (BA 1970).  She speaks at various Estate Planning seminars and has served as a member of the Estate and Gift Taxation and the Non-Profit Organizations Committees of the New York City Bar Association.  Rebecca is listed in Ohio’s Super Lawyers and in The Best Lawyers in America; has been named one of Cleveland's top 25 and one of Ohio’s top 50 women lawyers; and is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, serving on its Charitable Planning and Exempt Organizations Committee.  She was named in the New York Best Lawyers - Trusts and Estates - 2013 survey. She is a member of the Ohio, New York and New Hampshire State Bars.

A deep interest in cultural pursuits and the fine arts has nourished Rebecca’s knowledge of planning for collectors and other philanthropically inclined clients, as has her service on MoMA’s Planned Giving Committee and the professional advisory committee of the Cleveland Museum of Art.

In addition to her office in New York, Rebecca will be able to continue to serve clients in Ohio and the Midwest from a new office of the firm located in the Cleveland Ohio area.
