Melissa B. Milich practices in the areas of estate planning and administration, sophisticated income, gift and estate tax planning, trust administration, and charitable giving.  Ms. Milich works with high-net-worth individuals and families to create custom estate plans and to implement unique wealth transfer strategies.  Her practice includes advising clients on the benefits of grantor retained annuity trusts, sales to grantor trusts, qualified personal residence trusts, family limited partnerships and limited liability companies, life insurance trusts, and dynasty trusts.  Ms. Milich balances her clients’ tax objectives, family priorities, and business goals in order to provide her clients with a comprehensive approach to their planning needs.

In recent years, Ms. Milich has counseled founders and investors with planning relating to their interests in high-growth companies.  This advice requires a deep understanding of the federal and state income tax issues that arise in the context of liquidity events and other business transactions.  Ms. Milich also has developed an expertise in planning for clients that hold Qualified Small Business Stock and the unique planning opportunities available to these clients.

In addition, Ms. Milich advises not-for-profit entities regarding formation, administration and dissolution.  Ms. Milich counsels charitable organizations (primarily private foundations) on compliance with applicable federal and state laws, the creation of bespoke grant agreements, and the proper administration of the organization.
